Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry commenced the B.Sc. (Chemistry) program in June 2013. The department is committed to providing a comprehensive and practical education in chemistry, focusing on skill-based learning, research exposure, and holistic development of students—especially those from rural backgrounds.

The primary aim is to ignite scientific curiosity and impart relevant and updated knowledge in the field of chemistry through effective teaching, hands-on training, and research opportunities. The department seeks to nurture students into competent professionals with strong foundational and applied chemical knowledge.

Infrastructure and Facilities:

The department is well-equipped with the following:

  • Two functional laboratories: A general laboratory and a specialized laboratory dedicated to Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry.

  • Separate chemical storage areas: Including a store for chemicals, acids, alcohols, and a dedicated preparation room.

  • Departmental facilities: A private cabin for the Head of Department, a staff room with computer and internet access, and a departmental library to support academic learning.

Educational Approach:

The department emphasizes:

  • Quality education with discipline

  • Skill development in analytical and synthetic chemistry

  • Motivation and support for students from rural backgrounds

  • Focus on building transferable skills, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and practical lab competence.

Graduates from the Department of Chemistry are well-prepared for a broad spectrum of careers in both basic and applied research, industry, education, and other chemistry-related fields.
