Department of Botany

The Department of Botany was established in 2013 and offers a B.Sc. (Undergraduate) program with a vision to provide modern, skill-oriented, and quality education. It aims to contribute to social development by equipping students with in-depth knowledge in Botany relevant to local, regional, and national needs. The department prepares students to apply their botanical expertise meaningfully across a wide range of activities.

A key objective of the department is to develop well-trained graduates by fostering awareness of biodiversity conservation and various aspects of plant science. The department is well-equipped with plant specimens, herbarium materials, and modern instruments used in the study of Botany and Environmental Science. It also offers a variety of learning resources such as charts, slides, models, and a dedicated Botanical Garden featuring various medicinal plants to support independent and practical learning.

Botanical excursions are organized to study wild plant diversity and explore local urban and rural flora, as well as forest ecosystems. These excursions also include visits to agricultural universities and CSIR institutes to promote research-oriented learning among students.

The department boasts a team of qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty members approved by the University of Lucknow. Beyond the curriculum, the department runs an Enviro Club that organizes various co-curricular activities such as expert lectures, webinars, seminars, workshops, and plantation drives. These initiatives aim to develop students’ scientific temperament, environmental awareness, and life skills—preparing them to face challenges confidently and adapt to a globalized world.
